Twin screw compounding machinery makers are focusing their R&D efforts on process efficiency, ease of use, and upcycling. In development terms, the trend to equipment and systems offering enhanced capabilities and targeting specific requirements is likely to continue at pace. Allied to this is the introduction of features designed to respond to post-Covid challenges such as labour shortages and the accelerating move to cut carbon emissions. As a consequence, compounders are likely to see new equipment introductions that are easier to operate, more energy efficient, more compact, and that offer the flexibility to handle a broader range of materials – most notably recyclates.
