Mineral fillers make low-carbon gains
2 June 2023
A wide range of mineral fillers are used in plastic compounds, sometimes at quite high levels. Calcium carbonate, talc, kaolin clays, and other mineral products can all reinforce and improve properties while also providing a route to reduce cost. Today, however, as carbon footprint becomes an increasingly important characteristic, mineral suppliers are seeking to demonstrate that their products can also benefit plastics as a lower carbon-footprint addition to a compound. Producers are considering how to reduce the environmental impact of their materials and how to communicate potential improvements to their buyers.
